(my first instinct was to go "AAAH😭😭❤❤")
This is just a lovely visual novel.
First and foremost, the illustrations you did for it are beautiful. You can just see the adoration that Kyū and Tei feel for each other, and their expressions conveyed so much. Plus the sad moments really hit hard with the accompanying illustrations.
The story was also beautiful and so sad. The hope and the conviction they show in Ending A made it feel like their struggles together brought the boys even closer, and it was very satisfying.
And Ending B was absolutely heart-wrenching. I struggled getting it, but I also understand Kyū's feelings to a degree... it just felt so unfair, so I was very glad that the sad ending wasn't the only ending. It's nice to have a happy ending to fall back on after the tragedy.
Honestly, I'd love to see even more of Kyū and Tei. Either their past and how they met, or their future. But, even without seeing more, I didn't feel lost about their pre-existing relationship. Everything made sense, and you gave just enough of an explanation of their pasts and how they met that it all felt very natural.
Needless to say, I have a lot of feelings about Weeping Cherries. All good ones. I love a story that can both make me cry and squeal in joy. It was wonderful and I'm glad I got a chance to play it!
Hi, Cryptid! Thank you so much for playing and for writing out your impressions! This one has a special place in my heart so I'm happy you liked it 💕
I enjoyed the playthrough, as always! I especially liked the soft and sad voice you gave Kyū, I felt it fit his character very well. 🥺
TBH this story was intended as a one-shot so I don't plan to expand on it right now (even though I do have their backstory and other scenarios planned out in my head lol). But I'm glad it works, even in this format! It was one of my goals to make this game as self-contained as possible. Also, as much as I love my sad endings, I could never give them just a sad one and call it a day, that'd be too cruel dkfsfskfsdkf (conversely, giving this story only a happy ending wouldn't feel right either, so i hope i managed to strike a good balance between these two equally valid outcomes 🙏)
Anyway, thank you again! It was a lovely read and watch! 🫶
Ending B made me CRY. AGHH
Aww, I'm sorry! Sending virtual hugs your way 🌸
Landed ending B first, and it absolutely devastated me. And then ending A healed me a hundred times over~
This was a really sweet little game, paced very well and set up so well to deliver maximum impact on both endings. For such a small snapshot into them and their relationship, we quickly learnt a lot about them, and I couldn't help empathising desperately with both of them.
Played my heart like a fiddle, and it was a thoroughly (painfully) good time!
Thank you so much, this means a lot! 🥺💕
I wanted to try making a shorter story that'd still be impactful and make the player care about the characters (and it's actually not an easy feat at all with such limited screen time!). So I'm happy to hear this little game resonated with you. And that the pacing was good, 'cause that's something I've been trying to improve. 😅
(also, yes, it's probably better to do B first, haha…)
me when sobbing
Beautiful and atmospheric!
played this on call with a friend and cried for 2 hours. would do again.
This is a bittersweet VN of two people's weeping hearts in such an unfortunate lifetime. Their relationship is so sweet yet sad, I'm feeling them a lot :C
It's a nicely paced short story! I love the art, the beautiful sprites (they blink!!), the gestures that are shown, the small semi-CGs sprites, especially when Kyuu is leaning on Tei -- so cute! The sunset-coloured scene makes it look so nostalgic, which for me enhances the bittersweet feeling.
Thank you for making this!! <3
Aww, that's so sweet, Kona, thank you 🥺 im happy you enjoyed the little details i put in the game 🫶
And thank you so much again for the help with the beta, i appreciate your detailed feedback and thorough testing 💕
This is very well-done and beautiful!
... and made me want to eat mochi
Aww, thank you so much! 🌸 That's a cute side effect I never thought of! Now I'm craving some, too 😊
This is so precious, I was so happy to see Tei (T) and Kyuu (Q) again in this alternate universe!! 🥺💖
It's sad that in this universe too things are bittersweet, but I'm so glad you can make them have a happy ending. They deserve it so much!! 😭💕 I believe in their love!!
Awww, thank you so much, Pri 🥺💕
I like to think they'd get to live happily after this and that people would know and respect them as this defender duo and that things would maybe get better 🤧 (but if not, they'd still have each other and they'd come over stuff together 🙏 love wins fjdskfjsdlkfjsl)
This made me think. I don't like to think. But this game was really real. For real.
i did ending A and B and cried. it's so cute but ending B is also so sad 😭
Thank you! I'm happy the story resonated with you 🥺💕
This was so well done !!
I played both Ending A and B, the story can so bittersweet and/or tragic depending on the choices that you make. The GUI and artstyle are lovely as well :OOO I think it rlly added to the soft, warm nature of Tei and Kyu's relationship.
Aww, this makes me very happy! Thank you for playing! 🥺💕
Ending A 🥰💖 Just beautiful, I love them.
Aww, I'm glad you liked it! Thank you for playing! 🥰
An absolutely beautiful game! (Though all Hiro's games are --- HAVE YOU PLAYED THEM YET? GO PLAY THEM). Gorgeous artwork! Breathtaking music! Polished and refined GUI that ties everything together for a fabulous presentation. And let's not forget the story and characters, which are truly where the heart of this game (and Quaint) shines. Despite being a relatively short game, the endearing and sweet Kyuu will pull you right in and make you want to cradle and hold and protect him forever and ever! 😭 (And Tei is there, too, I guess... LOLOL I KID I KID. Kyuu just really stole the show in this one hahaha 🤣)
Don't wanna spoil too much about the possible directions of the story, but let's just say at some points you'll be crying and at some points you'll feel the biggest dumb warmth in your whole heart because of how sweet it is (and then in the next you'll be blushing like crazy djdjdj). The whole gamut! I also really enjoyed the use of (albeit horrifying) point and click effects to make an already guttural scene all the more difficult and heartbreaking.
Just overall a fantastic game. A wonderful bittersweet journey that's beautifully done.
(fskdskdf the subtle jab at Tei 😂)
hhhhhhhhhh what a sweet and lovely comment, you even went as far as promoting the other games, my heart 😭💕 kdlsf;sdlkfs;ksd thank you so much! for the wonderful review and for the help with the beta, the game is much better thanks to you! 🥺💕
I had the honour of beta-testing Weeping Cherries and it was a very great game! And don't be fooled by the length, it is an emotional punch!
First of all, the game is very polished: the GUI is charming, the art is very well-made. The CGs are particularly good, and the sprites' expressions are also very well-made. The animations spread throughout the game also adds to the experience! The music too was absolutely gorgeous and supported the mood of the story very well!
Let's talk about the story! It is a very emotional one. Not only does the game manage to set its world and its conflicts, it also paints with remarkable precision the relationship of Kyu and Tei, and, of course, how dependent it is on the "promise" mentioned in the summary of the game.
I won't spoil it here, but the game handles a rather dark theme, but handles it amazingly: it manages, in all its variations, to keep its tone and send healthy messages, and it won't blame the players for picking options offered by the game in the first place. And yet, never does the game celebrate unhealthy patterns. A tour de force, really!
To conclude, I cannot recommend this game enough! It is well-written, sensitive, emotional, the characters are great, and it is very polished and amazing-looking! Congrats Hiro!!
Awww, Chim, that's so sweet of you 🥺💕
I was a bit worried if I could handle the themes in a balanced and respectable way but your feedback helps put my mind at ease. At least for the most part, haha. 😅 The game pushes the limits of what I'm willing to put out there, I guess. ^^
Thank you for the lovely comment and the help with the beta! 🥰
